Pub review: The Gunton Arms, Thorpe Market, Norfolk
Perhaps it was the huge framed photograph in the gents’ loos of a Chinese lady masturbating; or maybe the portrait of the enthusiastically copulating dinosaurs in the hall; or perhaps the 3D genitalia tastefully hanging from an internal buttress. Whatever, something told me this perhaps wasn’t a pub for Town Gun’s nippers or for those of a gentle disposition.
Throw in signed works by Gilbert & George and neon artwork over the kitchen doorway and you were in no doubt that this was a very metropolitan bolt-hole; a creative and gastronomic redoubt for Londoners keen to bring culture to the yokels.
It was all a bit knowing for TG’s liking – and very much at odds with the sixty-something, country lady clientelle that had the place fit to bursting on a Friday lunch time.
